Quality In Everything We Do

Every home is different, and some projects require more than a standard deck. With over 15 years of structural carpentry experience, we specialise in designing and building bespoke outdoor spaces that combine creative design, structural expertise and exceptional craftsmanship. Whether your project is complex, unconventional, or completely custom, we’ll work with you to bring your vision to life.

Architectural Balconies & Elevated Decking

Building at height requires more than quality workmanship; it demands structural expertise. From elevated entertaining areas to cantilevered decks overlooking sloping sites, we create refined outdoor spaces that balance architectural beauty with long-term structural performance.

Feature Staircases & Multi-Level Design

A staircase should be more than a way to move between levels. Thoughtfully designed staircases and split-level decking create flow, define spaces and become architectural features. Every element is carefully considered to complement your home and landscape.

Common Questions

Bespoke Decking FAQ

What is a bespoke custom deck?

A bespoke deck is designed specifically for your home, lifestyle, and outdoor space. Rather than following a standard layout, every detail is tailored to your vision, from multi-level designs and feature staircases to integrated seating, privacy screens and other custom architectural elements.

Can you build a custom deck on a sloping block?

Absolutely. Challenging sites are where our structural carpentry experience really comes into its own. We design and construct custom subframe systems that work with the natural contours of your property, creating a stable, level foundation for elevated decks, balconies and other bespoke outdoor structures.

Can you incorporate custom features into my deck?

Yes. Every bespoke project is designed around the way you live. We can incorporate features such as built-in seating, planter boxes, privacy screens, feature staircases, storage solutions and other custom elements to create an outdoor space that’s both functional and beautifully integrated.

Do bespoke decks require council approval?

This depends on the design, height, and location of your project, as well as local council requirements. If approvals, engineering, or permits are required, we’ll guide you through the process and coordinate the necessary documentation on your behalf.

Why choose Against The Grain for a bespoke decking project?

Bespoke projects require more than quality workmanship. They demand thoughtful design, structural expertise, and meticulous attention to detail.
